Parking Information for the 2008-09 School Year
Due to the ongoing growth and limited parking spaces at Chaparral, all seniors will be offered a parking space. With the limited parking spaces left over a lottery will be conducted for all juniors interested in parking and have no outstanding fees or fines. Please note that there will be NO parking available for sophomores at this time. Thank you for your understanding. Please plan appropriately for your students if they are unable to receive a parking space.
School Advisory Committee
The School Advisory Council (SAC) is a committee of parents, teachers, and community members who meet monthly at Chaparral. The purpose of the committee is to discuss issues that are pertinent to the success of Chaparral High School. To comply with State law, we need to have three SAC parent voting members in attendance at all meetings.
Important Information Regarding Safety at CHS
Safe2Tell is modeled after the Student Crime Stoppers program. It allows students, teachers, parents or anyone else to call 877-542-SAFE, a toll free hotline within the state of Colorado, to report information about a crime that has already happened, or one they fear may happen.
Canine Inspections Help Insure Student Safety
For several years, the Douglas County School District Security Department, in cooperation with the Douglas county Sheriff's Office, have conducted random canine inspections of student lockers and vehicles to check for drugs or drug paraphernalia at district schools.
This is to announce to students, parents and staff that there will be several unannounced canine inspections of student lockers and vehicles at Chaparral High School during the 2007-08 school year. Using canine inspections serves as an effective deterrent for students who may consider bringing illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia into our school. These inspections are authorized by the Board of Education Policy JIH. Students are subject to disciplinary action pending the outcome of these inspections in accordance to the student code of conduct.
If you have additional questions about canine inspections, please contact the DCSD Office of School Safety and Security at 303-387-9999.
From the Attendance Office:
You are currently being notified of your student’s absence from school for one or more periods via the auto dialer. At the present time, the District is transitioning into a new system. Once the Parent Portal is opened, the parents or guardians will be able to access their student’s records and check attendance online. In the meantime please call the school attendance line with any questions about your student’s absences.

Parents’ right to access sex offender lists
The State of Colorado passed a law in 2004 requiring public schools to provide parents and guardians with information on how to access information regarding registered sex offenders in their communities. In Douglas County, parents and guardians can request the sex offender registry by contacting their local law enforcement agency or online at www.dcsheriff.net. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office website provides a link to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) web site—www.sor.state.co.us—for a statewide list of certain high-risk registered sex offenders.
In addition, the Colorado Sex Offender Management Board publishes the School Resource Guide to Sex Offender Registration, including information about the list itself and facts about sex offenders. For a copy of the resource guide, go to www.cde.state.co.us/cdesped/download/pdf/ChildAbuse-SchResGU.pdf. For information about how the district deals with issues involving sex offenders in Douglas County, contact the office of School Safety & Security at 303.387.9999.
